For The First Time Russian Air Race Were Held In Volgograd

On the eve of Victory Day, the Srednyaya Akhtuba airfield (Volgograd region) hosted the Air Race for the Great Victory Cup. The sports event was organized by the Russian Federation of Air Race and the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of the Volgograd Region.

The pilots of the Russian Air Race project from different regions of the Russian Federation competed for victory in the competition, among them were pilots from Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, Kaluga Region, Tula Region, Krasnodar Territory, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region – Yugra. The pilots competed in two classes: “Aircraft with a jet engine” (L-29) and “Aircraft with a piston engine” (Yak-55, Su-29).

The winner and medalists in the class “Aircraft with a piston engine” became Sergey Gurov, who represented the Moscow region, he won the Russian Air Race with a result of 1.08.32 seconds. Second place was taken by the pilot Vladimir Ilyinsky from the Tula region (1.10.44 seconds). The top three with a score of 1.11.13 seconds was closed by Alexander Vasiliev from the Moscow Region.

In the class “Aircraft with a jet engine” Vladimir Moskalenko, represented the Krasnodar Territory, won the competition with a result of 1.30.61 seconds. The second place was taken by the pilot from the Moscow region Anton Varekha, who flew over the air route in 1.31.56 seconds. The top three with a score of 1.52.38 seconds was closed by Vladimir Rodnishchev, from the Krasnodar Territory.

In the team classification (jet class) the Krasnodar Territory team (Vladimir Moskalenko, Alexei Shakhmatov and Vladimir Rodnishchev) became the best. In the piston class, the first place took the team of the Moscow Region: Sergey Gurov, Alexander Vasiliev, Pavel Bravkov, Alexei Ivanov.
